Ten reasons not to miss the SWISH ‘Women’s Slam Dunk Weekend’

Friday, March 30 through Tuesday, April 3 is SWISH Women’s Slam Dunk Weekend (and then some), celebrating the NCAA Women’s National Basketball Championships in Denver.
The tournament puts Denver in the national spotlight – here are ten events and reasons to make sure you get out on the scene that weekend.
1. Because girls do it better. Whether you’re a lesbian who can’t get enough of ladies in basketball shorts (yeah, hot asses) or you’re a gal who’s got team spirit, the weekend is sure to please the LGBT community and allies who can’t wait to jazz up for an old-fashioned game of women’s basketball.
2. For a better future. The only out lesbian coach in women’s sports, Sherri Murrell of Portland State University, will speak at the April 1 Time Out Equality Brunch benefiting the National Center for Lesbian Rights. Help her kick homophobia out of women’s sports, and, let’s be honest, sports in general – for good.
3. For the Queen City of the Plains. Denver’s in the national spotlight, so help prove the Mile High City has what it takes to put on a show! The Final Four is the biggest women’s sporting event to ever come to Colorado and a once in a lifetime opportunity. Not to mention it will give our economy a pop; it has been estimated that 30,000 visitors will make the trip and spend a generous $20 million on entertainment, dining and accommodations.
4. For old times. We remember tailgating parties, dosing up on jungle juice and warm beer for a college game, and want to re-live the memories. So gear up for a debaucherous blast from the past in the Tailgate Happy Hour, March 31 at the Eden – where the fruit’s not so forbidden and the liquor will be better than it was in college – but inside the doors it’s all about celebration.
5. For the groove. We can’t wait to take over the dance floor! March 31 at Tracks EXDO provides one MEGA dance party. With entertainment like SaaS Duo, who will throw down country, ’70s and a healthy dose of ’80s and retro, and one of Denver’s favorite DJ’s, Tatiana giving us the goods of Top 40 hits, hip hop and house. Get your flu shot and catch dance fever instead.
6. For the laughs. Wolfe video studios presents a comedy and dance party April 2 at Tracks EXDO. Jewish lesbian and comedian Julie Goldman will toy with your funny bone.
7. For free stuff. There will be giveaways for DVD’s from Wolfe Studios and trips to Cozumel Palace Resort at the EXDO dance party March 31. Great films and a vacay … who’s in?
8. For each other. Our favorite fearless lesbian leaders Dede Frain and Silke Reuthlinger are rallying the community from all sides of the Mile High City and beyond. Whether you are a BAD girl, a Hip Chick, or somewhere in between, this is sure to be the biggest gathering of our favorite friends and allies over the course of five days.
9. Because there are still 3 months until Pride. Gather women who love women, along with our friends, to show the nation how Denver kicks off a basketball championship. The ladies of Denver are doing their best to throw a week-long partay.
10. For love. This is the biggest event Denver has ever hosted for the lesbian community; PrideFest but three days longer and eye-candy galore. Maybe you’ll get lucky and sneak a few smooches with the hottie who’s been eyeing you on the dance floor or buying you whiskey shots at the pre-during-after party April 3 at Brooklyn’s.
