Elvira Relieved to be Welcomed into LGBTQ Community

Cassandra Peterson is a 70-year-old public sensation, actress, singer, and author. Under her stage name, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, Peterson became famous on KHJ-TV in Los Angeles in 1981, hosting Elvira’s Movie Macabre.

Her career only went up from there as she gained the rights to the character Elvira, being able to perform and entertain as the Mistress of the Dark and gain a cult following over a span of about 40 years. Early on, she only ever thought, ” ‘Oh, this is probably going to last about a week,’ ” she began, “But here I am, 40 years later still doing it.”

But Movies and Macabre seemed to be the least of Elvira’s worries. Her latest memoirs would open many new doors for her, as she opened up to her community in a memoir, released Tuesday, about her long-term relationship with a woman.

According to Daily News, the memoir is titled “Yours Cruelly, Elvira: Memoirs of the Mistress of the Dark” wherein the adored 70-year-old sensation confesses a history of having a relationship with one Teresa “T” Wierson.

Despite originally worrying about the reaction her public would have to her involvement and relationship with another woman for a 19-year span, the fans gave her overwhelming acceptance, bombarding her and her special person with love and positivity, according to them. It seemed she had worries that her public had an idea of Elivra in their heads that she was perhaps scared would be impacted by this revelation.

“They have been wonderful. I mean, I worried about them because I’ve always had a big LGBTQ fanbase and I worried that they would think I was a hypocrite and had been lying to them” says Elvira when talking about the LGBT community’s reaction.

This opening-up had been a long time coming, according to Today. Being that the relationship spanned nearly two decades, she figured there would have to be a point where she was done “sneaking around and introducing her as only (her) assistant, which she is, by the way. It was just uncomfortable, holding in secrets like that. That’s your energy, you know? And I just turned 70 years old and thinking, ‘If I don’t talk about it now, when will I? When I’m 90?’ “.

There are possibilities of a future marriage between the two, however Peterson appears to be adverse for the time being, hoping for more of “some kind of commitment ceremony, just because I don’t want another alimony check to write.”
