Following an impressive and ongoing resume in a lengthy, ever-growing list of TV shows and films, trans actor Elliot Page is venturing into music. He just dropped his first EP, simply titled Mark and Elliot, named for Page and his friend Mark Rendall.
Page met Rendall back in 2003 and enlisted his help in the production of the project.
“(Rendall) is one of my oldest and dearest friends and a true gem of a human. We recorded an EP together! It’s a lo-fi bedroom pop adventure! Go listen to it if you like!!!” Page teases on Instagram. The cover art features a picture of Page’s dog, Mo.
The three tracks clock in at a succinct eight minutes and 51 seconds. For fans of Page’s work, often times hard-edged and intense, fans will likely observe a very different, more playful, and gentle atmosphere surrounding the new EP.
Page initially rose to stardom following the huge success of the indie teen pregnancy rom-com, Juno, where he received an Academy Award nomination for his performance.
Page publicly announced late last year on social media that he is transgender and nonbinary, reintroducing himself as Elliot and expressing his gratitude in finally coming out.
“Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot.” Page wrote on Twitter. “I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life. I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self.”
Since coming out, he has used his platform to oppose the abundant anti-trans bills republicans have introduced nationwide this year.
Page and Rendall gave the EP away for free on Bandcamp. You can listen to and download Mark and Elliot here.
