Drink to your health: Smart, healthy(ish) drinking tips to beat the hangover

While we have all try our best to avoid some of the more negative side effects of drinking (weight gain, drunk dialing, sudden Vegas weddings), no one wants to be the only sober person in the bar sipping a coke and awkwardly doing the white-man shuffle. Luckily, one does not have to succumb to this humiliation to stay healthy and while at the club. These three tips from Keith Moore at Pura Vida Fitness and Spa can help you enjoy your night out and your next day, clear minded and hangover free.

Moderation and Hydration

These two phrases are vital in accomplishing a night of smart drinking, according to Moore. “Because your liver can only process two to three drinks immediately, you should try to avoid going over this limit,” says Moore. Drinking eight ounces of water between every drink is also important, as alcohol is a major dehydrator.

Order a glass (or two) of red wine

Besides providing your body with a plethora of antioxidants, red wine also contains amounts of heart-healthy resveratrol that may help prevent heart disease and protect against artery damage.

Go towards the light

If wine isn’t your scene, try to sip on clear colored alcohols, avoiding mixers that contain sugar, as it is one of the main culprits of post-party hangovers. Try a vodka drink mixed with soda water or diet lemon-lime soda.
