‘Drag Race’ Star Willow Pill Comes Out as Trans

Willow Pill is a member of the trans community, and we’re over the moon to hear the performer’s announcement.
The RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant came out in an emotional post on Instagram and Twitter, addressing a previous episode of Untucked where she talked about her gender identity. In the post, Willow says it’s taken “a long time” to come to terms with their transness because so much space has been taken up by her illness.
“My condition has caused me so much physical and emotional pain that my body became something I always wanted out of. Eventually, hating my body for failing me and hating myself for not being a girl was so constant and intertwined that it felt totally normal. I know it’s not my fault, just the way I’ve learned to survive,” Willow writes.
She says that being on Drag Race and feeling gender euphoria as Willow for the first time since quarantine, and being among a number of other queer and trans friends on set, allowed them to recognize they weren’t happy with their gender identity.
Willow also shares in the post that she had surgery to feminize her face, noting playfully in parentheses it’s “Why I’ve been looking so c**t,” to reduce some of the long-term effects from medication on her face. She’s currently discussing low-dose hormone treatment with her doctor, though Willow notes the future is mostly dependent on her overarching health and medications.
“I want to try. I want to cry more, have softer skin and a fatter ass. Happiness would also be nice,” Willow writes.
While Willow says they’re not sure where they fit on the spectrum, she says her gender is trans femme (along with an additional reminder that she doesn’t have to know or identify herself now, either). Willow also says she goes by Willow in and out of drag and uses they/she pronouns.
“I want to share this because I have felt so lonely keeping this to myself. I’ve rarely been able to talk to other people with similar stories, though I know there are many out there,” they add.
OFM send our love and support to Willow on her gender journey!
