Dracula is Returning to Denver

Bobby Crew

Count Dracula returns by popular demand to bare his fangs in Denver for a special Halloween performance. Bram Stoker’s famous Gothic horror takes the stage in ballet form, yet keeps all the dark, bone-chilling overtones.

Domenico is an award-winning dancer and one of the principle dancers for Colorado Ballet. This is his second season with the company but he has been performing for 15 years. “Most people are used to more fairy tales and happy endings. It’s interesting that through the media of ballet we have this version of the novel for Dracula. I think it’s a great asset, a production like this where we can combine and deliver a multimedia experience to the audience.

Despite being a ballet performance, the storyline sticks pretty close to Bram Stokers classic novel. It’s almost like a theater piece,” Domenico tells Out Front. “There is a lot of acting. The score is very interesting, it’s not a very usual composition. There are a lot of extra elements.”

“I think the most exciting thing is to just see how the ballet vocabulary is used to deliver a story that is very physical and dark,” says Domenico. “I’m sure people would enjoy seeing the combination of the ballet quality and technique, mixed with the acting and the beautiful scenery and costumes. I feel it’s a much broader experience for the audience.”

Come see the king of the undead yourself. With only four shows available from Oct 31-Nov 2, tickets are selling out fast. Buy tickets on the Colorado Ballet website here.
