Don’t Miss: “No Kings” Protest on October 18th

No Kings

On October 18, there will be millions of Americans throughout the country taking part in a nonviolent “No Kings” protest. The last major No Kings events were this past June, when over five million people nationwide participated—including people in Denver. According to a press release from No Kings Media Team, June 14 was the largest single day protest against Trump. More than 1,300 events are planned currently, with more being added on the daily.

These events are responding to President Trump’s increasingly authoritarian administration, and he’s taken notice, sending unwarranted investigations into progressive groups, and filing a defamation lawsuit towards the New York Times—due to their outward disapproval of his behavior.

The protests were deemed “No Kings” in response to this authoritarian control Trump clearly is aspiring towards. In America we’ve never had a king; we don’t want a king, and we will never have a king.

Ezra Levin, the co-founder and co-executive director of Indivisible—one of the activist groups responsible for the No Kings protest—was cited in the press release. “While Trump escalates his attack with occupations of American cities and secret police forces terrorizing American communities, normal everyday people across this country are showing up every single day with courage and defiance. On October 18, we’re going to show up stronger and more organized than ever before.”

Hunter Dunn, the National Press Coordinator for 50501, another organization involved, stated, “Trump has invaded our cities, dismantled our social services, and tossed hard-working Americans into concentration camps. He has sacrificed our constitution on the altar of fascism.”

The next step working against Trump is October 18, and it will be an incredibly important day of action for us Americans. It’s time to show up and show Trump that the people are the ones who hold the power in this country, not him.

If you are interested in getting involved, here are just some of the organizations working with the No Kings protest: Indivisible, ACLU, Common Defense, American Federation of Teachers, 50501, Human Rights Campaign, National Nurses United, and many more.
