DJ Sean OGrady puts the Denver music scene on the right ‘track’
No stranger to the notoriously thick beat-pumping Denver DJ circuit scene, rising star and local DJ Sean Ogrady lets OFC readers in on his music career and what makes the LGBT community in Denver tick.
What DJ events do you have coming up?
Well, I will be in North Carolina on June 9 for North Carolina Pride in Wilmington. It will be my second national booking, the first one being this week in Tampa. Then I’ll be doing Denver Pride at Tracks.
When will we get a chance to hear some new original productions?
Hopefully this fall. It’s been hard to find the time to finish production but hopefully this summer I can go ahead and find time to finish up production. I think that once I get it started, it will start to flow very quickly.
What is it about Denver that has kept you here as long as it has?
Denver kind of reminds me of New York, just on a smaller scale. I went to New York in 2008 and the people liked the same kind of music I liked. Also, the group of people that come to support me at my shows really keep me in Denver.
Denver Pride draws visitors from all over – how would you describe the scene?
I think the people in Denver are very cool and laid back but they go crazy at events. I also think that the gay community here is really close-knit.
The Center puts on a great Pride festival every year. It is in the center of everything in Denver so it’s great. And a lot of people come from the surrounding areas, I’m from Wyoming so I understand that people haven’t experienced something like Denver Pride in other states.
After Pride, what’s the next big thing you’re looking forward to?
Well there are other national bookings in the works right now. I’m really excited for the Snow Queen party at Tracks on
June 28. I did the same event last year and it was really cool. I am also going to San Diego Pride but I’m going as a guest. ]
