Did Susan Sarandon Come Out as Bisexual?

Academy Award-winning actress Susan Sarandon has hinted several times before that she may not be 100 percent heterosexual, and she may have officially confirmed it during her recent guest appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

As the late-night talk show host recalled the previous times the Hollywood legend came onto the show, he mentioned she’d brought her dogs with her. Sarandon sadly reported that her “little creatures” had crossed the rainbow bridge a year earlier, and since their passing, she told one of her sons that she didn’t feel like she could get another dog. She then said that her son suggested getting cats instead, followed by an unexpected, “And I’m bi, so… ”

Fallon, who was clearly taken aback by Sarandon’s comment, interjected, “Wait, so…You mean you like dogs and cats?” She responds, “I’m fluid, I’m very fluid when it comes to animals.”

While Sarandon’s hilarious comment could be seen as a joke, fans highlight that it does support comments made about her sexuality in the past. In a 2017 interview with Pride Source, she explained that her sexuality is open.

“My sexual orientation is up for grabs, I guess you could say,” she was quoted.

While appearing as a guest on the podcast Divorced Not Dead, she also shared that she didn’t care about the gender of any prospective partners.

What makes Sarandon’s Tonight Show appearance different is that it marks the first time she has publicly used the word “bi” to describe herself. She has always been well-known for her longtime advocacy for LGBTQ rights, and a few of her movies roles have portrayed bisexual and lesbian women, such as her character Janet Weiss in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Sarah Roberts in The Hunger.

Sarandon has been certified as a queer icon, and the LGBTQ community is embracing her newfound identity with open arms.
