Denver’s Famous Marijuana Mansion is Up for Sale

Marijuana Mansion

Haven’t you always wanted to own your own haunted weed mansion? Well, if you happen to have a spare $2.3 million lying around, the Marijuana Mansion could be yours, as Westword reports that the local, legendary property is now up for sale.

The mansion was built in 1889 for Joseph Creswell, and ghost tours still refer to it as the Creswell Mansion, but Denverites know it for its history with cannabis. According to Mansion Global, the property was the headquarters for the Marijuana Policy Project in 2012, which ultimately led to the legalization of cannabis in Colorado. Westword reports that it was bought in 2013 by Vicente Sederberg LLP, which is now one of the largest cannabis law firms in the country. Once the firm got too big for the headquarters, they moved out, and there was an unsuccessful attempt to turn it into a cannabis-friendly spa in 2018.

Current owner Lisa Leder opened the mansion in 2020 when she tried to rent the building behind the mansion to open a branch of Green Dragon dispensary. “When it was sold, it came as one package deal,” Leder explains to Westword. “The brokers said we could use the mansion as Green Dragon offices or headquarters. But when we went in there, I thought it was such a cool building, and I had a different idea: Let’s make this an interactive museum.”

During the pandemic, the mansion focused on historic tours, which proved very popular, and once everything opened up again the mansion started playing host to cannabis-friendly events. But Leder now finds herself spending most of her time in Florida and has trouble finding time to devote to the mansion.

“I’m not really here that much. To grow the business, it really requires someone to be more involved than I have the time and energy for,” Leder tells Westword. “The company is successful. I would love for somebody to continue to operate it, and that would be great…but maybe a law firm or something else moves in. I need to be realistic that it might happen.”

At the very least, the new owner will be required to continue leasing the back building to Green Dragon through 2031, opening up hopes that the new owner will want to keep the mansion’s stoner reputation in tact.
