Denver celebrates LGBT Pride this weekend

For the next 48 hours, the world will stop spinning for hundreds of thousands of LGBT people and their allies.

Denver’s 37th annual PrideFest will commence at Civic Center at 11 a.m. today. The theme for this year’s Pride celebration is “fight for your right to Pride.”

PrideFest is produced and is a fundraiser for The Center. The history of Pride celebrations stem from the 1969 New York Stonewall riots.

Saturday’s celebration is mostly family centric. Fab Morvan is Saturday’s headline entertainment. He’ll perform at 3 p.m.

Other entertainers include the Freedom Swing Band, a kids parade, the Demented Divas and the best of Drag Nation from Tracks.

Sunday’s events kick off with the Pride Parade. Starting at Cheesman Park at 9:30 a.m., the parade will march down Colfax to Civic Center. Leading the parade as grand marshals are all four of Colorado’s out gay lawmakers: Sens. Pat Steadman and Lucia Guzman and Reps. Mark Ferrandino and Sue Schafer.

Kristine W is the Sunday’s headline entertainer. She’ll perform at 3 p.m.

Prior to Kristine W: Coles Whalen, La Galla Queer, Krystal Towers and Asiel. There will be a rally at noon.

Other entertainment includes a Latin and country stage and round the clock DJs at DanceWorld.
