Denver Advances to Semi-Finalist Host City for Gay Games 2030

Earlier in August, the Gay Games 2030 Denver Bid Committee (GGDEN) submitted an official bid to the Federation of Gay Games (FGG) to be the host city for Gay Games XIII.

With this proposal, Denver has advanced to the semi-finalist position to host the games, up against six other cities worldwide. Their proposal details plans for 36 sporting events and several cultural events to take place across the Denver Metro Area. The Games would attract 12,000 participants and spectators from around the world to join our local community.

To have such a wide and varied group of people come to Denver for such a vast cultural event would mean so much for our local queer community, as it has for many other queer communities around the world. It also would help to promote the FGGs mission statement of equity, diversity, and inclusion in sport and culture.

For their next steps, GGDEN will head to Washington, D.C. from October 25 to 27 of 2024 to make their case for Denver to be one of the top three finalist cities of choice. The six other cities making a bid in front of the voting body for the FGG site selection are:

  • Auckland, New Zealand
  • Cape Town, South Africa
  • Edmonton, Canada
  • Melbourne, Australia
  • Perth, Australia and
  • Taipei, Taiwan.

The most recent games have been in Paris, Hong Kong and Guadalajara, with the next games, in 2026, taking place in Valencia, Spain. If the Gay Games 2030 were to take place in Denver, this would be the first time it has returned to the U.S. since 2014. To get involved, you can join the committee and other supporters at Tracks on October 4.
