DC Comics are giving the people what they want—after decades of fan speculation and rumors, the infamous superhero sidekick Robin is canonically queer!

In the latest issue of Batman: Urban Legends #6, Batman’s third Robin, whose real name is Tim Drake, has an honest, heartfelt discussion with longtime friend Bernard about their relationship status. After their date is interrupted by a legion of evil-doers, Bernard thanks Drake for helping him “realize” his “true self” and says, “I wish we could’ve finished our date.”

The next day, Drake rings Bernard’s doorbell and shyly talks about the night before. “I’m really glad you got home OK,” he says, blushing and shuffling. “And I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, about that night. And I—I don’t know what it meant to me. Not yet. But I’d like to figure it out.”

Bernard then asks Drake out and Drake responds, “Yeah, I think I want that.”

While some readers were quick to announce Robin as bisexual, the writer for the issue, Meghan Fitzmartin, stressed that Tim’s sexuality isn’t concrete, and that he is still figuring himself out. Nothing warms the heart like authentic representation of queer youth!

In fact, the issue has already become so popular that it has completely sold out and is on its way to a second printing.

Robin is not the first queer character in the DC Universe, however. Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy turned heads in 2013 with their canon relationship in the Batman series, which has since been adapted for screen in Harley Quinn on HBO Max. Batwoman, Renee Montoya, John Constantine, and even the iconic Wonder Woman have also been confirmed as major queer characters, along with many others.

Longtime DC fans are rejoicing online, flooding the interwebs with Pride fan art of Robin and buzzing with excitement. We cannot wait to continue to follow Tim Drake on his journey of self-discovery!
