Daniel Radcliffe Says Trans Rights!
Daniel Radcliffe has gone on the record once more and denounced JK Rowling and her transphobia. He was clear in his message, saying, “The reason I felt very, very much as though I needed to say something when I did was because, particularly since finishing Potter, I’ve met so many queer and trans kids and young people who had a huge amount of identification with Potter on that. And so seeing them hurt on that day, I was like, I wanted them to know that not everybody in the franchise felt that way. And that was really important.”
JK Rowling began posting nonsense to Twitter in 2020, spouting lies about the trans community and identifying herself as a TERF, or Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist. TERFism is dangerous and should not be considered feminism at all, as it alienates and pulls down so many women. So many trans people are killed every year, most being Black, trans women. HRC has recorded all of the deaths that went reported, though many of them go misreported or unreported.
In conjunction with The Trevor Project, Daniel Radcliffe wrote an open letter in 2020 stating his support of the trans community. Within the letter, he says, “Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional healthcare associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I. According to The Trevor Project, 78% of transgender and nonbinary youth reported being the subject of discrimination due to their gender identity. It’s clear that we need to do more to support transgender and nonbinary people, not invalidate their identities, and not cause further harm.”
So, you heard it here. Daniel Radcliffe stands with trans people and says, loudly, with his massive platform, that trans people deserve rights!
