Dallas Cowboys Player Goes on Transphobic and Homophobic X Rant

Dallas Cowboys legend Dez Bryant has tackled a new field of play: Olympic boxing controversies. Last week, the wide receiver, clearly with a flair for the dramatic, took a detour from football to dive headfirst into a debate on gender and sports. And let’s just say, his performance was anything but a winning touchdown.

The latest uproar involves Olympic boxers Imane Khelif from Algeria and Lin Yu Ting from Taiwan. Rumors, enthusiastically promoted by the discredited International Boxing Association (IBA), claim these athletes might not be who they say they are. According to these dubious sources, they could be trans women. The IBA, with its credibility akin to a paper airplane in a hurricane, hasn’t exactly earned a gold star for reliability.

Enter Bryant, who saw this as his chance to shine with some truly unique insights. In his world, God apparently didn’t intend for anyone to be anything other than straight or cis, and gender roles are mapped out in a celestial playbook. It’s almost like Bryant thinks the divine script was written with a crayon and hasn’t been updated for a few millennia.

In an X post, the football player wrote “God made you a woman for a reason. God made you a man for a reason. God didn’t put you in a foreign body. Also Men shouldn’t be able to compete in women divisions. My opinion.”

Ironically, as Bryant criticizes others for not fitting into his narrow view of gender, he might want to remember that football itself has often been described as a “gay” sport in jest, considering all those tight pants and, let’s face it, the frequent on-field hugs.

While Bryant’s social media antics have generated a flurry of responses, from cheers to facepalms, it’s clear he’s more interested in stirring the pot than making a meaningful contribution. In the grand spectacle of social media, Bryant seems determined to play the role of the grumpy old man shaking his fist at the world, all while missing the fact that his views are increasingly out of touch with the times. And while he’s certainly grabbing headlines, it’s hard not to wonder if he’s also achieving a personal best in misplaced outrage and stubbornness.
