Finding fresh music to kick off your weekend is one of our favorite things to provide the readers of OUT FRONT, and we are pleased to bring you one of the hottest EP’s of the year. Troye Sivan, who blew up the pop music scene in 2018 with the single “My, My, My,” has consistently been delivering powerhouse punches to the Top 40 genre since, is back again with a reprieve from anything that feels stagnant and stale during quarantine.

The new EP titled In A Dream is a genuine reflection on the strange reality we’ve all been enduring in 2020. It’s likely we are all familiar with the first single off the 6-track album, “Take Yourself Home;” a bedroom pop song that brings us all into a space of warmth, comfort, and understanding that our lives are nowhere near where they used to be.

As an out, queer artist, Sivan has not only used his music to express his sexuality, but to also explore the unique complexities of identifying as LGBTQ all while diving into what makes all of us a humans torturously similar. In A Dream is no exception to that rule.

Sivan has uncovered a confidence and comfort in songwriting, as he delivers solid music that has evolved from his original sound. Adding complexity to the genre, the low-beat dance tracks allow one to truly immerse themselves in the waves of life, encircling the listener in his velvety vocals.

The latest single “Easy” offers a longing, not only for a love that is gone, but for the lives that we all lived. ‘Can we make it through?’ Sivan asks, and we don’t know the answer to that question just yet. When summers felt easy, we no longer know this world that we are living in and so much feels as though it is missing.

Having come up with a dialogue that offers ways in which we can process these last handful of months, not only has Sivan delivered a much-needed, creative reprieve, but also a narrative in which we can all process and comprehend things through the much needed form of artistic expression.
