“Consensual Hits” by Nonbinary, Queer Artist Klypi

March 19 marks the release of queer artist Klypi’s (they, them) debut full length album, Consensual Hits, on both streaming platform Soundcloud and on tape.  AC Carter, aka Klypi, is the pop music creator based in Nashville, Tennessee, who performs music that sounds like if Kesha were from the ’80s and if NIN were gay.

The visual artist challenges the future in the tracks featured on Consensual Hits and brings an alternative we can get behind in the dance pop aesthetic. Planning a release of two music videos this summer, Klypi also released a custom eye shadow pallet to pair with the artistic and vibrant theme.

A hybrid of electro-pop artists Grimes and Dorian Electra, Klypi is also in the realm of performance and visual art and creates colorful costumes that are full of a backstory, and intention, and a full narrative. A 2020 University of Georgia MFA Fine Arts Graduate, Klypi has made garments for Jennifer Vanilla’s performance at MoMA PS1, and for of Montreal’s music video “Plateau Phase-No Careerism No Corruption”. Klypi also produced Ad•verse, a Georgia musical festival which focuses attention on queer, trans, nonbinary, and LGBTQ artists.

Leaning into artistic expression during a time that is uncertain, unwavering, and relentlessly persistent, the album was recorded and ready for release long before COVID struck us all with a forceful pause. Now, eager to share the creation that is full of unapologetic impatience and undeniable youth, Klypi is just beginning in the creation of sonic and visual storytelling.
