The Colorado Democratic Party put out a statement recently in regards to the Colorado GOP possibly electing a new obsessively anti-LGBTQ+ chairman, Eli Bremer, to replace the previous obsessively anti-LGBTQ+ chairman, Dave Williams.
Over 180 committee members participated in a meeting held by the Colorado GOP to vote on the matter. More than 90% voted in support of William’s removal. However, Williams is not accepting being ousted with grace.
In a text message he sent to The Denver Post, he says the decision to fire him is “beyond absurd.” He claims that a “fringe party faction” does not “get to decide for 400-plus members (of the central committee) at a fake meeting.”
Things are currently up in the air as Williams makes waves within the already unstable Colorado Republican party. If the decision continues to be appealed, it could work its way up to the Republican National Committee before it gets resolved.
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) recognizes Bremer as the new chairman, putting out a statement congratulating him on his new leadership. Williams told The Washington Times that the NRCC “has no authority to do anything.” We’ll see how that goes.
“The GOP has a troubling recent history regarding their commitment to democracy, so we’re not too surprised that no one seems to know who’s really in charge over there,” says Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib.
“At the end of the day, it simply doesn’t matter who the Colorado GOP Chair is: Bremer and Williams are two sides of the same coin, and both are 100% focused on dividing Coloradans with their unhealthy and strange anti-LGBTQ obsessions—not bringing people together.
“Colorado Democrats are going to remain focused on talking with voters about the issues that matter most to Coloradans, like saving them money, creating jobs, protecting our democracy and freedoms, and getting the government and politicians out of our personal choices.”
