Colorado Ballet Academy Presents Giselle

Coming this month to Denver, the Colorado Ballet Academy presents the heart-breaking story of Giselle. On May 5, there will be two showings of the performance. Giselle is a “timeless tale of love, betrayal, and redemption that has captivated audiences for over 180 years.” CBA students of all levels up to pre-professional will perform some stunning choreography composed by Marcus Petipa. The play has a chillingly beautiful storyline ready to captivate all audiences.

The show will take place on Saturday, May 25. There will be one showing at 1 p.m. and one at 6 p.m. Both will be held at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. The play was adapted by Academy Director Erica Fischbach, and the music is set to Adolphe Adam. It is beautifully choreographed and the plot carries emotional depth which “challenges Colorado Ballet Academy students in new ways,” says Fischbach. With a rich storyline, experienced performances, and the awe-inspiring setting of Denver’s premiere stage, this production will be nothing short of magical.

The story of Giselle follows a young woman who falls in love with Count Albrecht. He is a nobleman disguised as a peasant. Upon uncovering this secret, Giselle is distraught and dies of a broken heart. A group of vengeful spirits, the Wilis, come to Giselle’s grave and initiate her into their sisterhood. This initiation causes any man who enters their domain to dance to his death. When Albrecht comes to Giselle’s grave with flowers, he is trapped by the Wilis. However, Giselle makes it her mission to save him from his fate.

The Colorado Ballet Academy has worked hard to put together this touching story. Founded in 1951 by Lillian Covillo and Freidann Parker, Colorado Ballet Academy, it is Colorado’s premier foundation for ballet training. The academy’s curriculum is based in formal classical ballet technique, developing the skills of students from all different backgrounds with care and precision. With the diverse choreographic demands in the dance world today, CBA provides its students the ability to thrive.

The audience of Colorado ballet continues to grow and diversify. The Colorado Ballet Academy is pivotal in this growth and promotion. With 36 professional dancers and 58 annual, sold-out performances, CFA is building a lovely community in Colorado. Come check out Giselle and bear witness to a blossoming and beautiful ballet family in the heart of Denver.
