Climate Activist DJ Cavem Drops Plant-Based Trap Album
Before the shutdown due to COVID-19, Denver-based climate warrior, hip-hop artist, sustainability expert, and plant-based chef DJ Cavem partnered Earth Guardians to film a video, “1 For The Hood,” to throw a spotlight on communities struggling with the effects of climate issues.
According to the press release, The goal of shooting “1 For Tha Hood” during this time was to bring balance and regenerative solutions for national and worldwide, communal issues related to food, the environment, and the way we exist within these systems.
The trap album BiOMIMiCZ, released by Plant-Based Records, will be the first USDA album to come with a package of seeds provided by partner Botanical Interests. The seed packets contain post-consumer-recycled materials and are printed with vegetable-based inks, making them biodegradable and recyclable.
About working with DJ Cavem, Botanical Interests said, “We are excited to harmonize with DJ Cavem to help spread his message of eco-friendly gardening and culinary wellness. So, when asked, Botanical Interests was happy to help with these unique organic seed packets and get more organic vegetables into the gardens, and hands, of kids!”
DJ Cavem’s intent on the release of the album and the video is to highlight the climate issue in this country.
“The album is dedicated to trapping organic seeds & gardening. BIOMiMICZ is a trap album inspired to address culinary climate action as an environmental hip-hop artist, well educated on solutions that we should implement to address issues like holistic health and green job development. When it comes to taking care of the planet, the environment of hip-hop has directed sustainability and regenerative ideas directly to empower the hip-hop generation in the urban communities, predominantly black and brown, to help transform the minds and redefine the image of wealth in HIPHOP.” Cavem said.
Cavem worked with hemp clothing company Recreator.org to open the conversation on the pivot happening in hip-hop that redefines how we see the image of wealth. The video features DJ Cavem, Alkemia Earth, Ill Se7en, Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, and Earth Guardians marching on the Denver capitol building as part of the national strike for climate action (#climateaction). The video highlights the young generation fighting for action, holding signs saying “time’s up” and “protect our future.”
Recreator.org says one thread can awaken an entire industry. “Greening up the hip hop industry, one thread, and awakened artist/festival/merch product sale, at a time.”
