‘Cinderella’ Comes to Colorado in New Loveland Opera Production

Cinderella

Everyone knows Cinderella, whether it’s the decades-old Disney film or one of the many, varying folk tales that inspired the film and modern-day story. However, Coloradans now have the chance to revisit the fantasy and support local theater with a new, delightfully bubbly version of the classic story; Pauline Viardot’s Cinderella is coming to the Loveland Opera Theatre at the Rialto this month.

The production features a magician and digital projections, like the pumpkin turning into the coach, promising a unique and enchanting event for children and families alongside opera fans. Children are also encouraged to attend in costume as their favorite princess or fantasy character during the Saturday matinee shows, and its 75-minute runtime is perfect for families with younger kiddos, too.

This version is sung in English, though this rendition of Cinderella was initially written in French by 19th-century composed Pauline Viardot, a notable female figure in music history. She and her sister were both opera singers and daughters of renowned musician, Manual Garcia.

Rachel Harris produced the new English translation that will be performed by the Loveland Opera Theatre, who also plan to perform Lerner and Loewe’s musical Brigadoon next fall, originally scheduled for fall 2021.

Performances are set at the Rialto Theater in Loveland, located at 228 E. 4th St. in the heart of the city’s downtown district, October 22-24 and 29-31. Tickets are $40 for adults, $37 for seniors, $30 for students, and $20 for children 12 and under.
