The creator of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous finally responded to backlash over a moment of explicit queer love in the show.
According to PinkNews, the children’s cartoon—set in the world of the Jurassic Park franchise—featured a scene where two female characters openly confess their love for each other and embrace in a kiss. This caused an uproar with the Hungarian media regulator in 2022 and has now recirculated after a reaction from notorious bigot and worst SNL host Elon Musk.
Reacting to a social media post showing the kiss scene, Musk claims, “There is no need to have a kissing scene, especially a lesbian kissing scene, in a children’s show,” adding that “There are other streaming networks.” This is one of many conservatives who claimed this scene was some kind of attempt at indoctrination kids into the LGBTQ+ agenda.
At the end of this past September, Musk announced that through X that he had cancelled his Netflix subscription—after this rant, and another one following trans representation in the animated show, Dead End: Paranormal Park.
The show’s creator, Zack Stentz, responds to this criticism, stating: “No one was trying to push anything on viewers. We were just trying to dramatize the full range of human experience, which includes same-sex relationships. That’s all.” He continued, writing “Conservative Christians, I say sincerely that the only thing I am trying to push on your kids is, ‘You are stronger and smarter and braver than you realize. Believe in yourself, take care of your friends and help others (and animals) where you can.'”
This is not a rare occurrence—Several times this year, celebrities and other public figures have made comments about queer and trans representation in children’s media. Conservatives continue to push this narrative that themselves and their children are constantly being bombarded by gay characters on TV and film. However, GLAAD’s 2024 Studio Responsibility Index found that out of the 256 films (both streaming and theatrical) that came out in 2024, only 27.3% of them featured LGBTQ+ characters.
Conservatives must be searching hard for queer representation (so they can condemn it)—Obsessed much?
