Chick-fil-A Profits are Rolling Back LGBTQ Rights

Chick-fil-A

Many companies, including Chick-fil-A, are using their profits to roll back the rights of the LGBTQ community. The company’s co-owner has been donating to hate groups that are behind many of the anti-trans legislation in many states all over the country, as well as a campaign to stop the Equality Act from becoming law.

As reported by The Daily Beast, one of the largest groups behind the anti-LGBTQ campaigns is the National Christian Charitable Foundation (NCF), whose list of donors includes Chick-fil-A’s chairman and CEO Dan Cathy. Dan Cathy is one of the nation’s Christian Billionaires that uses his wealth and prowess to control and maintain the country’s more conservative viewpoints. After the death of Chick-fil-A’s founder in 2014, S. Truett Cathy left his fortune to his two sons Dan and Bubba. Today, Dan Cathy’s net worth is estimated to be more than $8 billion from selling chicken at Chick-fil-A.

Despite receiving backlash for many years over donating to anti-LGBTQ organizations and claiming to stop their association with said organizations, Dan Cathy continues to this day to support and donate to these hateful organizations. Over the years, the company has gone back and forth on multiple occasions about its support for these hate groups, saying it would stop in 2019. Now, it seems that Dan Cathy is looking to use his acquired funds from the company to back more aggressive anti-LGBTQ campaigns and legislation, as we have recently seen in many of the anti-trans bills across the nation.

Regardless of how Chick-fil-A as a company has reacted to the backlash, they continue to donate to anti-LGBTQ organizations. They happen through the donations to anti-LGBTQ charities, as well as Dan Cathy’s acts as a private citizen. These donations from all sorts of companies across the United States are actively putting the rights and wellbeing of the LGBTQ community at risk.
