Charitable Cheeleaders donate to LGBTQ Youth
CHEER Colorado has raised and donated $28,500 to LGBTQ Colorado youth. The donation went to YouthSeen, an organization that works to create partnerships with other organizations that specifically work for LGBTQ and BIPOC communities. Their main mission is to create safe communities and places for BIPOC and LGBTQ youth.
YouthSeen has grown in the five years it has been together, as Dr. Tara Jae, the founder, explains. “I can’t express the impact a donation this size will have in the lives of our QTBIPoC community. It means so much for our young organization and the LGBTQIA+ youth we serve to be acknowledged, supported, and cheered on in this way,” they say.
CHEER Colorado is a non-profit organization of volunteer adult cheerleaders that preforms to raise money for local LGBTQ charities. They strive to support health, wellness, inclusion, and diversity in the Colorado LGBTQ community. Every year, they choose a charity and give a large donation that they raise through fundraisers and paid showcases of their skills.
“Part of the reason nonprofits are having a tough time right now is because community need is at an all-time high. Between the pandemic, inflation, and social and political unrest, there’s a lot to consider when it comes to charitable giving. I believe the immense support CHEER Colorado has received this year is because we’re giving people a reason to feel hope and joy. We purposefully shine a light on the good things we see in the world, and we invite others to join us in creating more of it,” says Kristen Turnbull, the Executive Director of CHEER Colorado.
The $28,500 donation breaks an all time record for this nonprofit, showing that through their hard work and determination, CHEER Colorado has survived the pandemic, despite the hardship that they faced as a non-profit organization.
