Chappell Roan to Induct Cyndi Lauper into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Last week it was announced that pop star Chappell Roan will be inducting iconic musician, Cyndi Lauper into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

According to The Pink News, the announcement was made via a short video filmed by the lesbian pop-star herself in which she explains, “I’m so excited to be inducting Cyndi Lauper into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on November 8,” continuing that “She has inspired me with her fashion, her hair, of course her makeup, her music.”

The Midwest Princess herself revealed that when she was 13, she auditioned for America’s Got Talent singing Lauper’s song “True Colors.” Even though she didn’t make it, “the song is still incredible” Roan states.

The message closed with Roan saying, “I’m so excited. Thank you for having me. Cyndi!” To which Lauper responded in the comments section with three emojis blowing kisses. More comments are filled with support from fans of both musicians joyfully praising this crossover between the two.

Lauper’s induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a huge deal for the queer community. She’s spent decades being one of the most adamant LGBTQ+ allies since the ’80s. She co-founded the organization True Colors United in 2008 that is dedicated to ending youth homelessness with a specific focus on LGBTQ+ youth (about 40% of the youth homeless population).

With the clear influence that Lauper has had on the queer community, especially gay pop, it is evident that Chappell Roan is the perfect person to induct the “Girl’s Just Wanna Have Fun” star into the Hall of Fame, as she is no stranger to making high-energy, fun pop, with explicitly queer themes and bright, bold makeup and hair styles that clearly draw from Lauper’s iconic look.

The ceremony will be streamed live on Disney+ on Saturday, November 8 at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
