Chappell Roan and Drew Afualo Chat About Queer Inclusion

Chappell Roan, the new midwest sapphic dream girl, has made it big in the music industry, costing her a few—well, let’s say, spontaneous love adventures at bars.

Roan recently appeared in an interview on Drew Afualo’s podcast, The Comment Section, for some juicy conversations. The lover girl spoke about her adjustments to fame, her new crush Joan Jett, and how she misses being an unfiltered fun girl at bars.

Afualo asked Roan what she missed the most about her regular everyday life before stepping into international recognition, and in her frisky tone, she responded, “Drugs. Drugs in public. That’s what I miss.”

“Rolling up, being a fucking freak at the bar,” Roan says, “or making out with someone at the bar.” The podcast was titled “I MISS FROLICKING” because some of Roan also mentioned, “frolicking, obviously, because now I’m too self-conscious to frolic.”

During the interview, Roan also talked about how she didn’t expect to find success in music. “I never really expected anything for my career except to make me happy.” She added, “ I can be happy and poor. Not having money doesn’t scare me. It’s really just like, how do I make this be sustainable?”

She expressed that her fame is just the “icing on the cake.” Roan also mentioned the celebrity parties that she has been attending, including Miley Cyrus’, in which she told Cyrus, “You don’t know that you were my first concert when the Jonas Brothers were opening for you.”

Roan also mentioned the more “freakzoid” side of fame, where “people have started to be freaks.” It seems that all the eyes on her also roamed off into her family’s day-to-day life. She told Afualo that fans “know where my parents live and where my sister works and all this weird shit.” Making her slow down on being seen, she says, “I pumped the brakes on, honestly, anything to make me more known.”

Nevertheless, Roan is currently in the midst of The Midwest Princess Tour,  which is filled with highly creative themes and unmatched enchanting vocals from the OG-frolicker femininomenon.
