For real, we cannot be happier that 2020 has sashayed away. Although the year was a complete disaster for all the obvious reasons, there were a couple highlights, especially that so many were able to go on their own personal journey of self-discovery. Let’s take a look back at some awesome celebs who went on their own personal journey and came out as trans or nonbinary.
Gigi Goode
RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 12 star Gigi Goode came out on the show by telling fellow queen Jaida Essence Hall that she has always teetered between male and female, even when she is not in drag.
“Growing up, I’ve always been interested in feminine things,” she said later in a confessional. “I wanted to wear dresses to school. I’ve always thought there was no point to putting a label on anything in regards to gender. I don’t think I’ve ever said this out loud, but I think I’m fluid. Sometimes I identify as more male, and sometimes I identify as more feminine. I think that I’m both … and I’m neither.”
Eddie Izzard
Legendary British comedian, actor, and activist Eddie Izzard has long been open about being genderfluid, but it was just last month when she was a guest on Portrait Artist of the Year and stated she was only using female pronouns and wanted to be based in girl mode from now on.

Elliot Page
Best known for starring in Juno, the X-Men movies, and Netflix’s Umbrella Academy, the Oscar-nominated star came out in a post on Twitter where he said, “Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they, and my name is Elliot.” Fans immediately flooded the actor and activist’s social media with love and support. According to a release from Page’s team and GLAAD, they identify as nonbinary.
Quinn
Canadian Olympic soccer player Quinn came out as trans in September. They wrote on Instagram, “Coming out is HARD… as I’ve lived as an openly trans person with the people I love most for many years, I did always wonder when I’d come out publicly.” In their coming out post, they also gave tips to allies, including putting pronouns in social media bios, following trans folks, and voting.
Sara Ramirez
Grey’s Anatomy star Sara Ramirez announced publicly to the world on Instagram in August that they are nonbinary. They wrote, “In me is the capacity to be Girlish boy, Boyish girl, Boyish boy, Girlish girl, All, Neither.” Among other things, the post contained the hashtag #nonbinary. They had previously updated her social accounts to stipulate that they use she/they pronouns.

Noelle Stevenson
She-Ra and the Princess of Power creator Noelle Stevenson came out as “nonbinary, or something like it” and told the world that they use any pronouns. It was a big year for Stevenson, as their first show had its extremely queer finale, they published a graphic memoir, The Fire Never Goes Out, and they also got top surgery.
NikkieTutorials
Popular beauty YouTuber NikkieTutorials shared her story as a transgender woman in an emotional, coming-out video after someone threatened to out her. “I have been blackmailed by people that wanted to leak my story to the press” she said, “so, to the people who tried to blackmail me and thought they could really mess up my life with that, this one’s for you.”
Zaya Wade
Basketball star Dwyane Wade told the world in late 2019 that his 12-year-old child was to be referred to by she/her pronouns. Over the span of 2020, Zaya Wade came out on her own terms, first making her red carpet debut in color coordinated looks with her parents. The looks used colors from the genderqueer flag.
