Celebrating Blackness: Community Education Series
Intersectionality, accessibility, and squashing the sexist, patriarchal norms through queer…
The Center on Colfax has just announced a suggested series for Black History Month that focuses on highlighting some of the amazing work by Black creators while elevating Blackness and offering education to non-Black folks. With a combination of virtual events and workshops, the LGBTQ community center is providing a platform that welcomes Black voices to share their experiences while cultivating an environment of information, training, and bias-checking for all who participate.
Starting on Saturday, February 13, through Saturday, February 27, the workshops and virtual events dive into topics which may provide more insight into understanding the current social constructs which prevent many Black folks from living a safe and authentic life. From topics such as understanding privilege to dismantling toxic masculinity, these urge non-Black folks to dive deep below the surface and come to terms with ways unintentional micro-aggressions further contribute to the problematic climate.
Learn more about the history of race and white supremacy in the U.S.; understand what safe and inclusive businesses and outdoor spaces actually look like, and discover your inner advocate and influencer while you learn how to use social media as a tool for social justice work.
The intention of each and every workshop is to provide a safe and liberating platform for the Black community to educate non-Black folks on how to be better allies, but more-so to become activated and mobilized towards racial equity and equality, and to put an end to racism.
From forums to seminars, each study session is either free with a suggested donation, or is a minimal fee in comparison to the beneficial amount of education received and support shown for the Black community. Prepare to expand your compassion, and get ready to activate your advocacy by showing up, getting educated, and being a part of the change that humanity so desperately needs.
