Sapphic Style: Lesbian designers add new flair to high fashion

Lesbian fashion is not an oxymoron. Lesbians have always been an important part of fashion. When I worked in the fashion industry in New York City, I knew plenty of lesbians in the industry. They were never the name on the door – they were the names behind the ‘names.’

Diary of a Lesbian Fashionista: Returning to New York City’s Fashion Week

I used to be part of that life. Fashion Week is like the Oscars for fashion people – you spend days in advance planning your wardrobe. You make sure that you’ll attend every ‘important’ show or party. I packed two bags of black clothing plus amazing scarves, jewelry and shoes. Then I worried endlessly about those clothes, jewelry and shoes. I worried people would think I was no longer relevant since I’m not part of this life anymore.

I was born and bred to love fashion and style by my mom, who is 10 parts a style dynamo to zero parts a “let’s make cookies and cross-stitch a wall hanging” kind of mom.

Halloween fashion: Flaunt your haunt

It’s that time of year again – my favorite – when our alter egos can come out to play. We can’t always run around in our favorite superhero costumes. The dilemma lies in deciding which personality to flaunt during the few short days we can. Here are a few ideas to get you started, but remember, the best costumes are always those created from your own imagination. And, if you display an air of mystery, you may get the chance to take trick- or-treating to a whole new level.

The road less traveled: Returning to good old-fashioned road trips

As I got older, adventures seemed to stop being around-the-corner affairs. The desirable places weren’t accessible on road trips – you can’t drive to Paris. Flying became a necessity. Now, I’m on a plane every week. Compared to 30 years ago, it’s not so glamorous.

Fashion: Dressing for the occasion

Step out in style, or stay home! That’s the thinking – or should be, anyway – behind planning an outfit for a social event.

Dress to impress: Six fresh faces of lesbian fashion

For the longest time, only gay men were considered fashionable, the LGBT community’s women relegated to cargo shorts and ill-fitting menswear.

Wild fashion: Corky Blankenship’s famous Pride pool party proves guys get wet too

This year – the fourth annual poolside bash – took place on June 15 with nearly 900 people in attendance.
