Caitlyn Jenner Opposes Letting Trans Girls Play School Sports

Former Olympian and reality star Caitlyn Jenner is running for governor of California, and as a republican, she did not initially share her stances on any issues, at least until now. Jenner says that she doesn’t think trans girls should be allowed to play school sports.

“This is an issue of fairness,” Jenner told a TMZ reporter. “This is why I oppose biological boys who are trans competing in girls’ sports in school. It just isn’t fair. And we have to protect girls’ sports in our schools.”

The reporter rebutted, saying, “But if someone transitions and now identifies as a girl, isn’t it delegitimizing their identity to deny them—”

Jenner cut them off, saying, “Have a good day,” before climbing into her vehicle.

Jenner is a former Trump supporter, and though she is one of the most known trans people in the country, her politics and stances have sparked constant criticism from folks in the LGBTQ community. Specifically, comments like this stance and others show support for the republican party as they attack the trans community and have sparked conversations about Jenner as a potential leader and how her role would impact the LGBTQ community.

Current, California Governor Newsom is in a recall election, which opens the door for a potential new candidate like Jenner, and he has a long history of supporting LGBTQ equality. As mayor of San Francisco in 2004, he ordered the city-county clerk to let same-gender couples get marriage licenses, which was banned by state law at the time.

Jenner has been slammed by progressives and conservatives alike. Kim Kardashian West is reportedly “disappointed” in Jenner’s politics, leaving many to question who exactly is supporting Jenner’s governor bid.

According to Axios, Jenner has also assembled a team of GOP operatives to help with her campaign. She also spoke about California’s taxes being “too high” and criticized an “over-restrictive lockdown” in her initial announcement that she was running for office.
