Caitlyn Jenner Ignites Panic Amongst Trans & Nonbinary Youth
Caitlyn Jenner, an American media personality, former Olympic gold medalist, and mouthpiece for Fox News, has taken an even further leap into her hateful rampage toward the trans community. Jenner, coming out as a trans woman herself in April of 2015, overtly contradicts the transgender community as a whole considering how she’s notoriously known for her far-right and anti-trans views.
Jenner announced via Twitter on April 4 that she would be launching the Fairness First PAC. She then stated in an interview with Breitbart, a far-right news outlet, that being transgender “is not made up or fake, but it is oversaturated due to indoctrination and is the latest way the left is destroying the family unit—growing government, the indoctrination in the classroom, and the subsequent drastic increase in children being transitioned is a huge problem.”
Directly attacking LGBTQ youth, the Fairness First PAC is an imminent threat to families, an onslaught on teachers, and utilizes outdated ideas surrounding LGBTQ rights. She states that “the ultimate belief of Fairness First is that radical gender ideology infiltrating the classrooms, which has been extremely visible in sports, is an effort to break down the family unit; the family unit is under assault and looking to be replaced by teachers—and we see this with laws like the recent ‘California secrecy’ law.”
The introduction of this PAC has caused panic to heighten amongst trans and nonbinary youth as they seek essential access to gender-affirming healthcare. However, narratives from various news outlets pose identifying as trans or nonbinary as a social media-fueled trend and skew the idea of indoctrination in association with the wider acceptance and openness towards our youth expressing their true selves.
California’s A.B. 665 bill “allows minors over the age of 12 in the state’s Medi-Cal program to get mental health treatments like therapy paid for through health care benefits without parental opt-in. Jenner, in opposition to this bill, believes that left-wing Democrats are destroying the family unit and letting the government take control of their children by stripping parents of their parental rights and infringing on their ability to raise their own children. Numerous other conservatives have also spewed hate towards school policies that allow trans and nonbinary kids to transition socially within the classroom without notifying their parents or guardian.
Being a former athlete herself, Jenner is a firm believer that trans-women should not participate in women’s sports. She stated that trans kids’ participation in sports should be dictated by state laws that “need to ultimately govern their schools at a state level, they need to provide state-level guidance to their local school boards, from a legislative perspective, to govern who can compete in what leagues.” So, instead of a child being able to participate in a sport for pure enjoyment or just to be involved, she believes that their eligibility should be based on a child’s DNA and chromosomes and not on the child’s preferred gender that they comfortably identify with.
