GLAAD Auctioning Off Bowen Yang’s Iconic Emmy Platforms

Bowen Yang

Many were floored when Bowen Yang hit the red carpet for the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards back in September in a pair of stunning, silver platform shoes. GLAAD sure took notice, and now, they are auctioning off the eclectic kicks for a cause.

GLAAD listed the actual pair of iconic platforms Yang wore ahead of Spirit Day on October 21. Spirit Day is meant to support LGBTQ youth in a united stand against bullying, encouraging community members and allies to wear purple as a way for everyone—global and local brands and companies, world leaders, celebrities, neighbors, parents, classmates, and friends—to show their solidarity with LGBTQ youth.

Ramping up to the big day, there is currently a live auction for the shows and will remain open until October 16. All proceeds from whoever snags the shoes will benefit GLAAD’s advocacy work.

We here at OFM are surely a bit infatuated with Yang, as an iconic queer performer who grew up in Aurora, CO. In the industry, this local legend has since secured Emmy nominations for writing and acting in Saturday Night Live.

The internet was gawking over Yang’s fashion decision on the red carpet, one fan on Twitter inviting him to “stomp on me with those SHOES.” We appreciate and second the sentiment, David.

The platforms are the Rancho platform shoes, in silver, by Syro, a queer-owned, femme footwear brand. If you want your own pair (as opposed to Yang’s), they are available for $230, and you can get on the waitlist for new shipments now.

You could also try your luck at securing Yang’s pair through the above link, though you’ll end up shelling out at least $1,000.
