Boulder Pride 2015
Summer isn’t over yet and neither is pride season. Boulder Pride is your last chance for large-scale LGBTQ revelry. The pride week takes place from September 9–13. The main event, Pridefest, will be held at Boulder Central Park on Sunday (Sept. 13) from 11–6pm.
The event on Sunday has booked more than 100 local vendors and a delicious collection of food trucks to keep attendees energized while they dance and enjoy the music of Shady Elders, the local headlining band who sold out the Gothic Theater last October. The band is supported by Hey Ladies, Dagger Dagger, and Circus House. Live music will be playing all day.
Out Boulder has set aside an entire area for families and youth at the Pridefest due to its success last year. The youth stage will have multiple musical performances as well as an open mic.
Before the Pridefest begins participants are invited to run the Big Gay 5K. This is the first year a 5K has been added to Boulder Pride but already has hundreds of runners signed up.
The Pride week also features a youth talent show on Wednesday the 9th, an opening of “Allies in Action: A History of Boulder’s LGBT Movement” on the 10th, and a meet and greet with Duncan Tucker, the writer and director of Transamerica, followed by a screening of the film on the 11th.
On Saturday the 12th, there is a march on Pearl Street and in the evening, GLITTER, a 21+ queer dance party. The party will take place in a unique parkour studio called Apex Movement. There will be body paint, queer specialty drinks, an aerial artist, and of course, Boulder’s rowdiest LGBTQs.
Mardi Moore, the director of Out Boulder and organizer of Pride, has been diligent in every detail of planning to make this year Boulder’s best Pride. She believes it is time for people from Denver to come and see what kind of an event Boulder can put on. “Boulder doesn’t have it’s own LGBTQ social space, our pride is special because it is the one time of year we as a community can all gather as one. It is where our friendships are made and renewed,” said Mardi.
