Body Heat: Burning up the main stage at Civic Center with electro-pop hunk Mike Munich
With temperatures nudging 100 degrees, PrideFest week in Denver is already proving to be a scorcher. And though the forecast may suggest a slight cool down by this weekend’s festivities, don’t expect too much relief from the heat. Denver’s PrideFest has booked some of the hottest entertainers burning up the LGBTQ music and dance scene. Among them is triple threat Mike Munich, Glee star turned electro-pop beat boy who is coming to blaze our stage and melt a few hearts along the way.
Munich will be instantly recognizable to fans of the television show Glee. Appearing in the first three seasons of the show, Munich was a recurring character in a rival show choir team called Vocal Adrenaline. Also a true Adonis, exhibiting chiseled features and a rock solid body, Munich scored a great many more drooling fans when he showed off his goods in an Andrew Christian holiday ad.
But it is crafting his own brand of dance music that really stirs the multitalented Munich’s passions.
The artist has learned to fuse all of his experiences as an actor, model, and back–up dancer for such legendary artists as Kylie Minogue, Christina Aguilera, Adam Lambert, and Beyonce into his own unique style of music and performance.
“The two things I turn to for inspiration are music videos and fashion editorials,” Munich said, describing his style. “They feed my soul. By becoming an artist, I have been able to combine fashion, movement, and music on my own terms.”
All of his inspirations are apparent in his new music video for the single “Love at War.” A dance floor-ready electro pop track, the video shows off some of Munich’s sultry moves and features an abundance of dazzling bling. The single is sure to become a hit at LGBT clubs across the nation, and is guaranteed to get you moving and sweating when Munich performs it at Denver PrideFest this weekend.
On what fans should anticipate of his Denver performance, the remarkably down-toEarth Munich told Out Front, “I guess it’ll be a surprise! I’m not able to bring my dancers to this show so you’re gonna get a whole bunch of me. (Laughs).”
But there was a promise Munich is willing to make, and that is his set will be “upbeat, fun, sexy, sassy, and high energy.”
“I turn into another person on stage,” Munich said. “I become very unpredictable, so it will probably be a surprise for both of us!”
Already, one of the surprising elements of Munich’s sets is that the performer donated his performance to Denver PrideFest. This is a rare and beautiful contribution, as most stars, especially acts such as Munich- up-and-coming hot pop commodities, don’t come to Pride celebrations for cheap.
Munich said he did this because Pride, both the community celebration and honor we should have for ourselves, is important.
“I think celebrating Pride is so important because as gay people, our lives don’t really begin until we come out,” Munich passionately commented. “I was 16 when I came out, and it wasn’t until then that I could finally begin exploring my true self and look in the mirror without seeing the mask I had been wearing. It’s an ongoing process and evolution. We’re literally getting to know someone we’ve never really met before.”
And Munich is particularly excited to celebrate Pride with Denver this year, after our state and so many others (including Munich’s home state, Minnesota) marked milestones towards equality.
“I am so honored to celebrate equality and love this Pride season. This is such an exciting time for our community because we are gaining momentum and writing history,” said Munich. “I can’t wait to perform on top of the world in the Mile High City!”
MiKE MUNiCH will play PrideFest’s main stage at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 15 and again Sunday at 4 p.m. For more information, or to check out Munich’s music, please visit mikemunich.com, twitter.com/mikemunich, or facebook.com/mikemunichofficial.
