Blush & Blu Owner May Be Opening a New Bar

Blush & Blu

On September 27, the “Cocks on Colfax” Instagram page made its first post. “Denver’s newest gay bar,” the caption reads. Rumors immediately began to spread that this new bar belongs to Blush & Blu’s Jody Bouffard, who just announced the lesbian bar’s closing—and the rumors seem to be true.

The rumor mill started churning after Blush & Blu’s announcement on Saturday. At first blush, it looks like the two announcements are simple coincidences. However, if you do a bit of digging, the new bar is in fact registered publicly with the city under Bouffard’s name and LLC.. This was first revealed as a copy of the official business filing began circulating on Facebook, but it can also be found through Colorado’s business database.

According to the database, Cocks on Colfax is registered to Dragonfly Entertainment Group LLC. The document itself lists Jody Bouffard as the individual who signed the document in the first place. It also lists the delivery address as 1526 E Colfax Ave, which is the same address as Blush & Blu. Furthermore, Dragonfly Entertainment is registered to Jody Bouffard. The company was originally registered in 2012 and lists the same address as the one on the Cocks on Colfax documentation.

This may answer a few other lingering questions. In the last month, the bar’s front switched from its classic blue and pink block stripes to one that references the progressive Pride flag colors. It would be odd to repaint the storefront and then immediately close, and this had some speculating that the decision was sudden. However, now it seems like it may have been attempt to prepare the building for a new direction.

So far, this is all technically speculation, although the business license, which is public record, is a pretty serious clue. Initial reactions from community members are reflecting disappointment and anger that the bar is planning to rebrand, citing allegations of back pay owed to former Blush & Blu employees as well as claims of alleged racism and discrimination as the primary reason to not see the bar try again in a new direction.

At this time, Bouffard and Blush & Blu have not responded to any attempts from OFM to get a quote.
