“Black Gay Blog” Launches New Campaign

The new “Amplify Black Queer Voices” campaign has launched at the Black Gay Blog. The campaign will provide a space for Black, LGBTQ voices to share stories of love and hope in the form of writing, podcast, or film.

Paul Boayke, editor-in-chief of Black Gay Blog, is starting the campaign in hopes of increasing representation of Black, queer people in the media. “We often take for granted how much representation actually means to human wellbeing and how much it can shape society,” Boayke says

Black Gay Blog was founded as a platform to strengthen the Black, gay community by encouraging Black, queer men to uplift and support each other through writing and the sharing of stories.

“When I searched for ‘Black gay men’ on Google two years ago, and all I could find was porn and HIV statistics; it was time to change the conversation—that was why I created the Black Gay Blog, to build a safe space where we could be seen,” Boayke says.

A couple years after founding the blog, Boayke wants more representation and more stories about love. “Now, two years on, we want more Black, LGBTQ+ people to share their stories and experience. It’s only by doing this that we will steadily increase representation and dismantle the barriers that our community has faced for far too long.”

Those who hope to be published by Black Gay Blog can submit their pieces through March of this year. Fiction, journalism, reviews, memoirs, and biographies are all encouraged by the campaign. Starting in April 2021, selected pieces will be featured on blackgayblog.com and podcasts and films will be streamed on YouTube or Facebook.

“We want this campaign to unleash the creative force that is at the heart of the Black LGBTQ+ community. We all have the agency to change how we are valued by the world around us, and it starts with our stories,” Paul Boayke adds.
