Charli XCX and Billie Eilish continue “brat summer” by releasing a very gay music video and remix of the bonus track “Guess.”
The collab was heavily teased on Charli’s Instagram last week, where she posed in lacy underwear next to a mystery person in layered boxers, baggy shorts, and a hand covered in silver rings. Due to her signature silver rings and masculine style, fans quickly realized the figure was Eilish. Charli confirmed the Internet’s guesses with a preview of the music video, a clip that featured the two women falling onto a pile of bras, shortly after the original post. Now that the video and remix are fully out, we can truly appreciate how gay they both are.
The video itself starts with Charli lipsyncing her song in the middle of a house party, with B-roll shots of couples making out, both gay and straight. It creates a sensual party environment that perfectly matches the song’s sound, especially with Eilish’s sultry vocals joining in. She drives into the party on a bulldozer as underwear rains down around her, eventually joining Charli on top of a mountain of underwear.
It isn’t just the video that feels like a celebration of sexuality, but also Eilish’s verse, which is very queer on its own. “Don’t have to guess the color of your underwear/Already know what you’ve got goin’ on down there/It’s that lacy black pair with the little bows/The ones I picked out for you in Tokyo/I saw them when you sat down, they were peekin’ out/I’m gonna tell you right now, they’re all I’m thinkin’ about,” she sings. Her verse finishes off with, “Charli likes boys, but she knows I’d hit it,” which, honestly, same. In a culture that’s currently becoming more and more puritanical, it’s nice to see unabashed sapphic horniness.
Lastly, all of the unworn underwear featured in the music video will be donated to survivors of domestic abuse with I Support the Girls, a group that provides underwear and period products to people facing domestic violence or homelessness, meaning that you can watch this wonderfully gay video and know that it’s also for a good cause.
