Marking the third in a series of four videos, as part of Billie Eilish‘s official live performance series, she and Vevo announced the release of her official live performance of “Lost Cause.”
“Lost Cause” is from Eilish’s latest album, Happier Than Ever, and the live release of the track follows the release of her two previous official live performances of “Male Fantasy” and “Your Power.”
JP Evangelista, Vevo’s SVP of content, programming, and marketing, says everyone at Vevo have been huge Billie fans and love working with her, adding they collaborated closely on the live performances to create a cohesive series matching her aesthetic and sound.
“Billie is always so involved in the vision of her music videos, and her detailed input is a huge part of what makes these performances special,” Evangelista says. “It’s been such a pleasure watching her blossom into the superstar that she is today, from her first music videos, to very intimate fan shows, Billie is truly one of a kind. We look forward to more successful future collaborations.”
Eilish and Vevo also worked together for exclusive live performances of “my boy” through their DSVR Artists to Watch program; “you should see me in a crown” and “bitches broken hearts” for Vevo LIFT; and “when the party’s over,” “bellyache,” and “you should see me in a crown” for Vevo’s LIFT Live Sessions in 2018.
Eilish worked with Vevo’s team to create the space for the performance, blending elegant and retro, soft but powerful. The video was shot on 35mm film and sees Eilish wandering around of ballroom, adorned with golden drapes and ornate fixtures. Finneas is below heron guitar with her drummer perched in an alcove.
“Billie Eilish’s trademark whisper has gained more and more emotional power in the last four years,” Vevo notes in the video description. “The secret-sharing sense of intimacy contained in the pop phenom’s voice brims with the kind of textural qualities that pull fans deep into the story she’s telling in any given song. Sometimes dreamy, sometimes fierce, always fetching. The songs Billie chose to do for our Official Live Performance series have all used her signature sound to great advantage.”
