Bikini Kill Releases 2024 North American Tour Dates

Bikini Kill

Feminist, Riot Grrrl, punk band Bikini Kill has announced the dates for its 2024 North American tour, starting in March and continuing through September.

Bikini Kill, currently composed of Kathleen Hanna on vocals, Tobi Vail on drums, Kathi Wilcox on bass, and guitarist Sara Landeau, was originally formed in 1990 in Olympia, WA, and was active until 1998. They are often credited with beginning the Riot Grrrl movement in the early 90s due to their political lyrics, zines, and confrontational live shows. Zines are often still used today to continue creating community, and political resistance amongst marginalized groups. The Riot Grrrl movement, and Bikini Kill specifically, encouraged women of all ages to start and join bands as a form of cultural resistance.

They first went on tour in June of 1991 and have toured the United States, Europe, Australia, and Japan. The band reunited in 2019, which marked their first full band reunion since they disbanded in 1998. This tour marks their first dates in South America and Mexico. For Bikini Kill, touring was (and is) a way to create a network between girls who played music, put on shows, or created fanzines, which created a forum for many female voices in music to be heard.

Throughout their career, Bikini Kill has recorded and released a demo tape, two EPs, two LPs, and three singles, which are currently all available through their independent label Bikini Kill Records. They recently reissued Pussy Whipped and Reject All American on CD, and vinyl for the first time since they went out of print.

Lead vocalist Kathleen Hanna is currently releasing a memoir about her experience in punk spaces, the positive and negative aspects of the punk world, and her life leading up to her punk experiences, titled Rebel Girl: My Life as a Feminist Punk. The book comes out May 14, 2024, right before the European leg of the Bikini Kill tour begins.
