Biden’s Approval Rating Rises to 44%
Are things about to turn around for the president and his administration? After a slew of announcements in August, Biden’s approval rating rose to 44%, the most favorable figure in a year, according to a new Gallup poll.
This constitutes a bit of a jump just since last month, when Biden’s approval rating was at 38%.
The news comes just after the announcements that the Inflation Reduction Act was passed and that partial student loan forgiveness would, in fact, be happening. Such a low approval rating normally spells doom for the incumbent party, with many expecting a loss of seats in the midterm elections. Recent polling data, however, indicates a probability that Senate will remain with the democratic party.
According to Gallup polling, most democrats approve of the way Biden has handled several issues throughout his term, chief among those issues is his handling of COVID-19. Other issues included the environment and the ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Biden’s 44% approval rating only puts him above five other prior U.S. Presidents. He now matches former President Obama’s approval rating in 2010, a year when democrats lost 63 seats in the house.
Biden’s rising approval rating might serve to give some key Senate candidates hope. Those races include the republican Dr. Oz versus democrat John Fetterman race in Pennsylvania and Herschel Walker versus democrat Raphael Warnock race in Georgia. Colorado’s own current democratic Senator Michael Bennet will face off against republican Joe O’Dea in November, though Bennet remains the favorite.
If Biden’s approval rating continues to increase ahead of the November elections, it’s entirely possible that democrats will hold Congress. If the democrats not only hold strong, but gain seats, it will allow some key legislation to move forward. Continued legislation from the democratic party, along with a well-crafted message, could very well contribute to this rising approval rating, but whether this pattern will continue remains to be seen.
