Biden Nominates the Second Out Woman to Serve in Federal Court

Following the queer success of Beth Robinson’s ascension to serve the country in a seat as judge in the Federal Appellate Court, President Joe Biden has announced another out woman to ascend on the same bench, according to LGBTQ Nation. This makes Nathan the second out woman to serve in Federal Appellate Court.

Alison Nathan, a Southern New York District Judge for the U.S. District Court, is now nominated for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals of the Second Circuit. D-NY Senator Chuck Schumer recommended her for the job, as he did for her current position.

“Ali Nathan is an outstanding judge for the Southern District of New York and her experience, legal brilliance, love of the rule of law and perspective would be invaluable in ensuring the federal judiciary fulfills its obligation to ensure equal justice for all,” Schumer says in a statement.

Nathan is a hot spot for tabloid and legal media, provided that she is the judge assigned to the case against Ghislane Maxwell, associate of billionaire and sex trafficker of Jeffrey Epstein. Maxwell stands accused of procuring and luring in young girls for Epstein to sexually abuse. Allison is set to oversee Maxwell’s trial on November 24.

Her legal career is being enhanced further proportionate to her merit and duties in this nomination, and the more LGBTQ people we have in higher positions, the better things can get for legislation that allows LGBTQ people the same rights as everyone else. This nomination as well as that of Beth Robinson could open the floodgates for more and more diverse people to act in federal positions of power and lead to much needed equity and rectification with many deeply-rooted issues in the state, most of which are centered around catering to wealthy, straight, white, and cisgender men.
