Awakening Humanity

Awakening humanity – wow – tall order. Or is it? As I often do when contemplating writing about a particular subject, I took the idea of “Awakening Humanity” into my daily practice this morning. The first thing that came in was “awakening our humanity.” Somehow, some way it always seems to come back to the individual expression. Humanity to each of us is no more or less than our individualized experience and beliefs about it. If humanity truly needs to be awakened, doesn’t it make sense that it is the individual who needs to stop hitting snooze before anything might possibly happen on a grander scale?
It seems that all too often we get caught shaking our collective heads at the lack of consciousness around us. Too many distractions, too many devices, too many events that keep us hypnotized as we sleep walk through the grind. It is only in the devices and distractions that we become aware of, in our own lives, that we have the capacity to overcome; to transcend into a more awakened state. It is not the texter drifting into my lane who needs to awaken; it is me awakening to him that changes the energy of that portion of humanity that I occupy.
Where do we develop that awareness – that awakening of spirit as the human. Each of us already possesses all the tools we will ever need for all the development we will ever choose to undertake. It is in the ancient wisdom that has been passed down to all of us through the ages. Some would call it daily spiritual practice and it might look like prayer work, journaling, reading, reciting affirmations, chanting, yoga or other physical activity. All of these practices can create a meditative state of mind and lead to a feeling of communication and oneness with that higher Self we all talk about.
While meditative, of course, is a good thing, actual meditation might be a more definitive pathway to quieting the noise of our world to access that infinite signal that broadcasts, non-stop, as the over-arching creative intelligence of the Universe. In the quietude of the meditation state – the quietest the mind may be beyond sleep – is the awakening of the spirit animating the individuated human. That inner awakening generates the power that changes the vibration of each of us as we express into the world. Where we raise that vibration we set off the alarm clock of consciousness.
Ultimately it is not for the individual to awaken humanity, but only to awaken ourselves. As each of us embodies and models that awakened human we give all around us permission to access the same for themselves. It seems to always come back to the same place throughout all of time; the answer is practice, practice, practice. Daily practice as meditation is the keystone of an awakened humanity, brought to a higher consciousness of its own volition. Namaste’.
