Auditions open for Denver Gay Mens’ Chorus

Auditions open for Denver Gay Mens’ Chorus

There are a few coveted openings within Denver Gay Men’s Chorus lineup this year. If you think you have the pipes, auditions are open today and take place on Sundays. We got some extra information that may peak your interest and help your auditions.

What attire is appropriate for auditioning?
Come in comfortable clothes and ready to sing, just be yourself.   We are hearing auditions now through Sunday, October 5th for the Holiday Concert.
Are songs selected for the auditioner or do they bring their own sheet music?
You are asked to bring a song to sing a cappella (without piano) of no more than 2 minutes in length.  It can be the National Anthem, My Country Tis of Thee, Happy Birthday or anything else you would like to sing.  I even heard “I’m a Little Teapot” this year!  This is followed by some vocal range exercises to determine your voice part and some pitch recall to test your ear.  It is a no pressure, encouraging audition setting.
What kinds of voices are you looking for?
We are looking for voices in all sections but have a special need for First Tenors (highest voice). Happy to have all voice types however.  All are welcome.
What is the time commitment?
We ask all singers to sing two of the three scheduled concerts for the year.  There are weekly rehearsals on Sunday nights from 6-9 pm September – June and we do memorize all of our music.  This requires some personal practice outside of rehearsals with your recorded rehearsal  study tracks.
For more information and to schedule an audition, email info@rmarts.org. We will be holding auditions throughout the next 4-6 weeks for our upcoming holiday concert in December.  Audition times are flexible we rehearse Sunday evenings 6-9pm at Christ Church at 7th and Colorado.  Auditions are always held Sundays prior to rehearsal as well.
