Aspen, Telluride and Steamboat Springs host Colorado gay ski weeks in 2014
With frigid weather causing havoc throughout the Midwest and east coast, Colorado has been supplied with plenty of snow that the locals love to see. As such, ski resorts statewide have been in full swing since November.
A few mountains in particular organize gay ski weeks for the LGBT community to enjoy. Aspen, Telluride, and Steamboat Springs each host weeklong events aiming to provide a fun and welcoming environment for gay skiers and snowboarders alike, as well as anyone simply looking to enjoy a mountainous retreat away from home.
If you thrive on spontaneity, Aspen Gay Ski Week runs this week, through Sunday, Jan. 19. Along with more than 30 inches of snow to tear apart, there will be ample amount of activities to participate in, including hot tub parties, a night film gala, live comedy show, fitness classes at the Aspen Club & Spa, and even a downhill costume contest.
In addition to the fun, the entire week is a fundraising event for The Roaring Fork Gay and Lesbian Community Fund (RFGLCF), whose benefits will go to support various charities on local and nation platforms. such as GLSEN and The Trevor Project.
Telluride Gay Ski Week (TGSW) offers nine days of snow-filled fun, the longest gay ski week provided by a Colorado resort. From February 21 through March 2, Telluride offers multiple themed parties, wine night, and of course, plenty of skiing on their impressive 43 inches of snow plus base.
Like Aspen Gay Ski Week, TGSW raises money from the event to support local causes, in this case Telluride AIDS Benefits (TAB). A fashion show to promote TAB will take place on the second Saturday of the week and tickets for this event are in high demand.
OutBoard 2014, in its 19th year, is taking place in Steamboat Springs from March 25-30. There is a copious amount of skiing to be had over 6 peaks and 2,900 acres of terrain. The long-running event will host various parties and dinners throughout the resort and town of Steamboat Springs. Even a sunset viewing and sleigh ride dinner is on the schedule.
