Arvada Center to Celebrate LGBTQ+ Community with June Events

June marks the month for those who celebrate being a part of the queer community, and with that in mind, the Arvada Center of Arts and Humanities are announcing their own Pride events happening this June.

On June 13, the Arvada Center’s main stage theater will have the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus who will perform Shout! To raise their voices, and sing songs of the LGBTQ+ composers and performers brave enough to inspire the world with their truth. The group is a staple within Denver’s queer community who actively use their singing abilities to unite our community into unity. Tickets start at $25 dollars.

June 15, in the main stage theater, the space will be hosting Kaleidoscope, a unique blend of original music, poetry, and improvisation, a collaborative concert fashioned to bring a crescendo to queer discovery and issues. Bonding between different forms of artistic media while also fastening a shared discovery of ourselves, this event is presented with the Baroque Chamber Orchestra and Standley Lake Public Library. Tickets are free!

In June, we come together to celebrate and recognize the LGBTQ+ members of our community in honor of the 1969 Stonewall uprising. The Stonewall riots took place in New York due to a raid by the NYPD on the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village on June 28, 1969, resulting in a six-day protest from these raids due to the social discrimination and harassment of the police department. This action would be followed by gay marriage and sexual orientation under the 1964 Civil Rights Law. The federal government first recognized the month in 1999 when President Bill Clinton declared June “Gay & Lesbian Pride Month.” In 2009, President Barack Obama declared June LGBT Pride Month. For those who are celebrating Pride Month in the Arvada area, please don’t miss out on these events and enjoy your day with those who will embrace you with open arms.

Happy Pride Month.
