And Toto too Theatre Company, a Denver nonprofit focused on helping to promote women in all mediums of the arts with an emphasis in producing plays written by women, recently announced the first two short plays for their 2023 Queer Reading Series: An American Disaster by award winning writer and journalist Rachael C. Johnson and Delivered by award winning playwright Jeffrey Neuman.
Both productions will be performed on March 29 at 7:00 p.m. at the newly opened Glissade Coffee Company, located at 2520 Galena Street in Aurora. Glissade Coffee Company was founded on the idea that specialty coffee should be inclusive, incredibly delicious, and, most importantly, fun.
An American Disaster is a play about the gray area between the truth of how you and your significant other see your relationship versus the way others view it externally. For Alva and Seth Cherry, their healthy, normal (at least to them) relationship goes viral in the worst way possible. Then, in the most public of ways, they are left to figure out how to clean up their image and move forward as a couple.
Delivered is the story of four people whose lives collide when they witness a strange and disturbing occurrence. Based on real events, it is a play about the dangerous crossroads of homophobia and complacency.
Directed by Associate Artistic Director Madison Kuebler and starring Colorado performers Tresha Ferris, Jeff Jesmer, Sean Michael Cummings, and Adrienne Martin-Fullwood, this evening of short plays, as well as the season overall, takes And Toto too back to the coffee shops and bars in the community, as they were pre-pandemic.
This special project expansion by the company provides space for other disenfranchised and overlooked voices within the arts by opening up submissions to the entire LGBTQ community.
