Festival For Life and 5K Walk/Run Goes Virtual
Along with many of Denver’s famous events, this year’s Festival For Life and 5K Walk/Run: AIDS Walk Colorado will be moving to a virtual format to keep the tradition alive, and the registration is now live.
“As a health organization dedicated to serving marginalized identities and people with compromised immune systems, we strongly believe this change will be in the best interest of the health and well-being of our communities. While we recognize that going virtual will impact every aspect of this important tradition, we are also confident that the virtual event will provide a fun and meaningful opportunity for connection during this time,” said Darrell J. Vigil, Chief Executive Officer of Colorado Health Network
Instead of a one-day physical gathering, walkers and runners will have the opportunity to complete their 5K virtually over a three week period between Saturday, August 8th, and Friday, August 28th. In addition, a series of fun community Facebook Livestream events to unite the community will be held, such as Zumba classes and interviews with FFL partner agencies, fundraising contests, and provide activities along with a runner/walker toolkit.
Pending final approval from the City of Denver, the organizers are planning to host a socially distant Quilt Ceremony at the Cheesman Park Pavilion on Friday, August 14th followed by a display of eight panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt during the day on Saturday, August 15th.
“Thank you in advance for your understanding and support of these changes! We are so grateful for your continued friendship and look forward to being able to meet in person in 2021. Please visit the Festival For Life event page today for answers to your questions about this event along with details on how to register to participate! Otherwise, continue to watch for additional communication in the days to come!” said Darrell J. Vigil, Chief Executive Officer of Colorado Health Network
