Snoop Dogg Facing Criticism Over Comments About LGBTQ+ Representation in Movies

Justin GoodrumBy Justin GoodrumSeptember 2, 20253 Mins Read

It appears that the movie Lightyear has triggered rap artist Snoop Dogg to the point that he is “scared to go to the movies.” Snoop appeared on the August 20 episode of the It’s Giving Podcast to express if fear of attending movies due to the rise of LGBTQ+ representation in films targeted towards children. He went on to discuss with host Sarah Fontenot that he took his grandson to see the 2022 movie when he was shocked to see a film highlighting lesbian mothers.

As reported by Them, Snoop went on to say that his grandson asked him, “Papa Snoop, how did she have a baby with a woman? She a woman!”

Snoop continues, “I didn’t come here for this shit! I just came to watch the goddamn movie!” He adds, “Fuck me, I’m scared to go to the movies. They’re throwing me in the middle of shit that I don’t have an answer for.”

He continues, “It threw me for a loop. These are kids, that we have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answers.”

Because of these comments, there have been demands to remove him from performing at the upcoming Australian Football League (AFL) Grand Final. But AFL CEO Andrew Dillon has decided to keep Snoop as part of the Grand Final pre-match entertainment.

“We cannot vouch for every lyric in every song ever written or performed by any artist who has appeared on our stage—Australian or international,” says Dillon via the AFL’s own site. “It is also important to remember that we engaged Snoop Dogg in 2025 as the person he is today. He has spoken publicly about his past; he has changed, and today, he is a grandfather, philanthropist; he helps rehabilitate youth and is a global entertainer who has performed at both the Super Bowl and the Olympic Closing Ceremony to audiences of more than 100 million people.”

Despite having the support of the AFL CEO, Snoop is still under fire for his comments, as his gig as a coach on NBC’s The Voice could be in jeopardy. The U.S. Sun reports a production insider for the show says, “The show does not condone the comments whatsoever. This is the opposite of the kind of spotlight they want on the show just ahead of the new season.”

The report says a source believes “comments like these” are “exactly why Snoop is already on the outs with the show.”

Recently there was news of an apology from Snoop Dogg speculating on social media, but Deadline reports that the apology was fake and that the rapper has not yet made any follow up comments.
