5 easy ways you can lead a more sustainable life

Being more sustainable doesn’t mean you just recycle. There are easy ways to become more sustainable for your benefit, the earth’s benefit, and your wallet’s benefit. It’s easy to think that your contribution to a cause or idea isn’t enough to make a difference, but it’s that thought that will prevent that idea from moving forward. So lets look at sustainability as a cause that if everyone positively pushes toward, could make a huge difference in this world. Often times we don’t participate in sustainability because we don’t know how. Below are 5 easy ways to help your health, the earth, and your wallet.

1. Recycle

Yes I know I said sustainability is more than recycling, but this is a great place to start. I know several people who refuse to recycle because they think the waste companies throw it in the land fill regardless. Yet I’ve visited Alpine Waste Management and “saw for myself” the incredible process that goes into separating and recycling everyday waste.

2. Eat healthy

Who doesn’t want to become healthier? Buying things that are grown or produced locally not only keeps the money you’re spending in your community but helps to insure quality of your food. Places such as Corner Store here in Denver are knowledgeable and specialize in local and organic foods and make it easy for you to get them delivered directly to your doorstep. Visit them online, pick out what you want, and tell them when to bring it. At 2020 Lawrence Apartments in downtown Denver they deliver free to the residents and who could complain about not having to spend time in the store when our lives are already so busy?

3. Live LEED

If looking for a new place to live, especially if you are apartment hunting, look for LEED certified buildings. These communities should be geared towards helping make sustainability easy and convenient as well as providing things like higher indoor air quality and value for your health. 2020 Lawrence Apartments in downtown Denver is a great example of a place that provides ways to effortlessly become more sustainable. It will also save you substantially on your monthly utility bills.

4. Compost

Composting is an easy way to divert even more waste from ending up in landfills. Things such as coffee grounds, garden waste, and paper towels can be composted instead of thrown in the garbage.

5. Walk or bike

One of the most obvious things you can do that is beneficial for your health, the environment, and your wallet is walk or ride your bike to work. Think about all the money you will save on gas and parking, especially if you work downtown. You also get a great workout and avoid the stress of traffic.

At the end of the day, a healthier lifestyle coordinates perfectly with becoming more sustainable.
