RTD to provide free rides on New Years Eve

Denver is looking out for it’s partiers this New Years Eve, continuing a 25 year tradition of offering free rides via the Regional Transportation District (RTD). In other words, they are offering all you sloppy, drunk messes a safe and reliable ride to and from the bars on one of the biggest party nights of the year.

Not worried about running the risk of climbing behind the wheel to travel a few measly miles to the bar?

• One person is killed every half-hour due to drunk driving
• Each year approximately 16,000 are killed in alcohol related crashes
• Alcohol is a factor in almost half of all traffic fatalities
• Every other minute a person is seriously injured in an alcohol related crash

Although Thanksgiving is the most dangerous time to be on the roads, New Years Eve is a not too distant second. So RTD is providing the one thing to keep all of you queens safe, no matter how much you have to drink.

The free rides will run on all regularly-scheduled bus and train service as well as Access-a-Ride and SkyRide services. Free service will run from 7 pm on Thursday, Dec. 31, to 12 am on Jan. 2.

Service will operate on a weekday schedule on New Year’s Eve and a Sunday/holiday schedule on New Year’s Day. Riders should check both the late night weekday schedule and the early morning Sunday/holiday schedule for trips after midnight on New Year’s Eve. Service hours will not be extended. Due to expected high passenger volumes, riders should plan accordingly for the evening.

It’s also a time to look out for your friends, that we all know drink a little too much. So pay attention to the obvious signs that someone is drunk. Like denying it…
